What up fam! This week was one for the books. Bardstown is seriously blessed. This week we found 17 new investigators! Craziness! We have been trying to find as many people to teach as possible and things have been working great! So many people are willing to listen to what we have to say. It is awesome! The branch is just amazing. They are so happy to have sister missionaries so they love having us over for lessons and for dinners. Bless up. Every week we do service at a Catholic school with random tasks that they have for us. This last week all the employees asked us what we do as missionaries and what we believe in. So we had to chance to share a little bit about our beliefs and why we do the things we do. Everyone seemed to be really interested in what we had to say. Afterwards one of the ladies asked if we could go over to her house for dinner and talk with her and her daughter more about what we believe. It was so cool! We are getting in with the Catholics! Oh two things you need to know about Bardstown. 1. Everyone is Catholic 2. It's the Bourbon capitol of the world So it's really hard to teach people who were raised Catholic but we seem to be finding the prepared people here! And it always smells like Bourbon. Always. We live pretty close to a Bourbon distillery so it covers the entire town. When it's super humid you feel like you're swimming in Bourbon. It smells pretty bad but we manage. Hopefully one day I will be nose blind to it. Yesterday at church our investigator Angie bore her testimony and testified that she knew that this is the true church. She is so solid it's great! I love her to death. When she sat back down she started having a seizure and so we had to catch her and lay her down on her side. She's prone to seizures so luckily this one wasn't too bad. That's about it for this week! Gospel love, Sister Harris 1. Sister Snow! 2. Wendy's is life 3. Fidget spinners are life 4. We found an etch a sketch Hello peeps! What a week! First week of pink washing was similar to the last... lots and lots of cleaning! It was so great though! Sister Snow is amazing, Bardstown is amazing, the branch is amazing, the people are amazing, everything is just amazing! I'm so excited to work in this blessed area! We are working with some pretty amazing people. Our most progressing investigator right now is Angie and she is set for a baptism in 3 weeks! Hopefully everything goes smoothly! This last week Sister Snow and I decided that we are going to eat CLEAN! We have been basically just eating fruits, veggies, and chicken haha. Sister Snow is also a cosmetologist so maybe she can help me step up my hair game a bit. Love youinns, Sister Harris 1. Our cute apartment and car. It's name is Berry. 2. Carved my name into the desk before I left hehe 3. We make sure to keep a BOM, resto pamphlet, and our card in the free library every day. So far 6 have been taken! Hey everybody! First of all with fathers day being yesterday I just want to say how much I appreciate our fathers. I love my dad so much and he is one of my favorite people ever! I'm also so grateful for my Heavenly Father who loves all of us perfectly and unconditionally. He loves us so much that he sent his son Jesus Christ to atone for the sins of the world so we can all live with him again! I'm so grateful to have such great earthly and heavenly parents! Well this transfer is coming to a close and tomorrow I will be transferred to Bardstown, Kentucky!! My new companion will be Sister Snow. I'm so excited for this upcoming transfer because I will be pink washing! Pink washing is when sister missionaries replace the elder missionaries in the area. This will be very exciting since neither Sister Snow or I know anything about the area. It's sad to leave my baby area but I'm so excited for this new adventure and to go where the Lord needs me to go! So there were a couple weird things that happened last week. On Monday after P Day Sister Moore and I went to an elderly living apartment complex to visit one of the members. First of all this is a really weird place because it used to be an old high school and it still has lockers and kid murals all over the building. The outside of the building still says it's a high school so it's really weird. We went inside and we had to go up an elevator to get to the members apartment and as we were going up the entire elevator shook and then just stopped. The doors wouldn't open and we started to slightly panick. We were stuck in an elevator! Basically we were just laughing a lot and breathing really fast haha. We tried opening up the doors but they wouldn't open so we just waited for a little bit. The doors opened a little later and we were able to get out and do some work. That was pretty interesting haha! On Tuesday we had 3 people sign up for dinner that night so we rescheduled one and had the other 2 that night. It was so terrible. We went and ate with the first family trying not to get too full. The next couple we went to go see had us meet them at a pizzeria and gave us a HUGE pizza! I had a couple slices but they kept teasing me to have more and more pizza. So I ate more and more pizza to make them happy but I was SO full! Then after pizza they gave me a HUGE bowl of sherbet to eat. I basically just wrecked my stomach and felt so sick the next couple of days but you gotta do whatcha gotta do. This week was also zone conference so we got to meet with our mission President and other missionaries and a great time was had by all! We also got a new investigator last week and she seems super awesome! She says she's been looking for a religion that would fit into her life and she thinks this would be good for her! She thought the message of the restoration was so cool and she was so excited to keep meeting with us! I love people like that! Last night I stayed up packing and listened to the nutcracker for an hour so that was cool. Anyways, that's about it for this week! I love y'all and hope everyone has a fantastic week! Peace & Blessings Sister Harris 1. Monkey figurine at a potentials house 2. Yes the monkey is holding a rock 3. The animal shelter! 4. Lawlz Hey yall! This has been a pretty crazy week! It started last Monday when we came home after proselyting time and we found a dead mouse in the middle of our kitchen. We named him Reggie and had a eulogy for him and taught him the plan of salvation before we threw him away. Reggie was a good kind mouse. He didn't eat too much of our food and never pooped where we walked. We look forward to seeing him in heaven one day. Something else crazy that happened this week was a bird pooped on my face. Yes. We were talking with a lady about the gospel in front of her house and then a bird flew by and pooped right on my face. I asked her if I could wash my face in her house and she didn't say anything so I asked her again and she just went inside her house. So now me and Sister Moore are walking down the street and I have bird crap on my face and we are just looking for anyone who would let me wash my face and finally we found someone we talked to a couple days earlier and he let me use his bathroom to wash my face. People keep telling me that that means good luck so I hope they're right! Some other fun things this week was that Sister Moore and I made some funny missionary memes and some music videos. Sister Moore is just the bomb. We have so much fun together. I'm gonna miss her so much! We get our transfer call this Saturday and we will see if I'm going to a new area. Crazy things are happening in the GKLM. There has been a decrease of missionaries coming in and a lot of missionaries going home so they will be closing 5 areas and having sisters pink wash an area this upcoming transfer. Crazy stuff! Sad news is that we had to drop Barbara as our investigator. She told us she would not pay tithing and so she can't be baptized. My heart broke when she told us that. She was so close to baptism. She still knows everything is true and knows that this is the true church and that this is the only way back to her heavenly father but tithing is too much of a challenge for her right now at this time in her life. Missionaries will still continuing ue to stop by every now and then but since she's not committed to progress we can't continue teaching her. I will miss Barbara! She was amazing! Maybe someday she will be baptized, but I am honored to be apart of her conversion story. The gospel is true and it changes lives. I love it with all my heart and I love sharing it with everyone I meet. The mission is way more difficult than I thought it would be but it's worth it. There is so much happiness to be found when you live and share the gospel! Gospel Love, Sister Harris 1. Family pic 2. Last district meeting 3. Memes for daysssss 4. Quotes! Hey everybody! It has been great here in madison! The transfer is almost over and I might be leaving to a different area and it makes me so sad! I love the ward here and the investigators are awesome and Sister Moore is so great. Nothing too crazy is happening here. Last week when we were driving to district meeting we were driving down the highway and a deer jumped out of no where into the road and it scared us so much but nothing happened and we just laughed about it. A little later I had to spit my gum out and I leaned out the window to spit it out and my glasses flew off my face and so we had to pull over and I ran down the highway to get my glasses. Haha surprisingly they didn't break and they were just a little scuffed up but nothing bad. And then a little but later we were driving and there was a HUGE snake in the road and we had to wait for it to cross the street. So ya it was a pretty crazy drive and we were just laughing about everything the entire way. Our investigator Barbara was going to be getting baptized this Saturday but she has been having problems with having to live the law of tithing after baptism and so we hope she will commit to it before then but it makes us so sad to see her struggle with this commandment. She wants to be baptized but it is hard for her to pay tithing because she feels commited to other charities. We prayed with her about if she needs to obey the law of tithing and she started crying and told us she wants to live with God again. I love Barbara so much and I hope she finds the faith to keep this commandment so she can be baptized and enter the covenant path towards her father in heaven. That's about it for this last week! Love youinns! Sister Harris 1. and 2. missionary memes 3. look at Dat sunset 4. lol 5. A quote on really liked this week :-) Hey everyone! This week has been a great one! I have been companions with Sister Moore for a week now and she is so awesome! We have a lot in common and it's going to be a lit transfer. This week there was a blue grass concert in downtown madison called River Roots and we got to TWE (talk with everyone) around it and it was so fun. Lots of interesting people haha. It rained and there was a full rainbow all the way in the sky and everyone we talked to said "look it's God's promise!" Haha so yeah it was very interesting. What's really cool is that we got 9 new investigators this week and we are teaching in Spanish to one of them! I have no idea how to speak Spanish so I'm studying haha. His girlfriend translates for us and we try to speak in Spanish but I have no idea what I'm saying haha. Hopefully I get better! I gave a talk yesterday in church about what I can sacrifice for the lord. It was the first time I gave a talk I didn't have it written out word for word what I was going to say and it went great! It was actually a lot easier than I thought it was going to to be. I've seen my skills improve more and more as I've been out on my mission and I've really seen how the spirit works through me. I'm so grateful for this time I'm here on my mission. I look at how long I've been out (almost 4 months now) and how much I have to go and it seems daunting but it's also the best thing I've ever done. I'm so grateful for this time I have that I can dedicate my life to the lord and follow the path he wants me to take. I'm eternally grateful for the restored gospel of Jesus christ and all the blessings it's given me in my life. I love you all and hope you have a great Week! Peace & Blessings Sister Harris The only pic I have this week is one I took with a giant bunny. He's the size of a medium sized dog. Kind of scary lol. I'm out of traning!! It's been a long road but I'm finally out of training! Transfers are tomorrow and I will be staying in the madison area. Sister Mendon will be leaving to be an STL in Evansville and Sister Moore will be my new comoanion. Sister Moore is super awesome! I know her a little bit because she trained a sister from my MTC district and I can just tell she is such a great person. I'm super excited to serve the Lord with her in Madison! Luna was confirmed yesterday! Now she has the gift of the holy ghost and she is doing great. I love her so much! I'm so so so so happy for her. This last week was somewhat of a bummer. Almost everyday our plans fell through and we met a couple not so nice people. BUT it was Sister Mendon's Birthday and that was great! Her sister sent her a GIANT cake in the mail and so we have lots of chocolate cake. Also some members dropped by brownies and cupcakes. So our dessert needs are definitely being taken care of. We also have some investigators that continue to impress us with their growth. We had the opportunity to volunteer at a 5k on Saturday which was super fun! And we took Brother Kubik with us to the temple so he could walk around the grounds and enter the waiting room. It was super powerful. He had the chance to meet one of the temple presidency members and was explained about the blessings of the ordinances of the temple. Brother Kubik loved seeing the temple. He is so close to baptism! He even said "maybe I just need to jump in the water" and sister mendon and I were like "YES!!!" in our minds. So hopefully that happens soon! Also our phone broke lol. It's one of the sliding phones and it came apart so we got a new one so that's shveet. We saw a squirrel crossing a power line so that was pretty cool too. We got to play with kittens the other day at the shelter and they were s'cute. I tried to hold them all but they kept running out of my arms. Oh and I got to Skype the fam yesterday! It was so great seeing everyone and getting the actually talk with them! I'm so grateful for technology that allows our families to stay close together. So anyways, that's about our week. I love you all! Peace & Blessings Sister Harris Wow what a week! Luna got baptized!! We had her baptism yesterday and it was so great! Luna actually was the first person I taught in the mission field. She is so amazing and she has such a special place in my heart. This has been a long road leading up to her baptism but we thought she was finally ready! It was such a special day. We all felt the love that Heavenly Father has for Luna so strongly. There were many tears of joy shed from everyone in attendance. We all love Luna so much and are so glad she found the right path. Luna grew up having a rough life and it's so amazing seeing how much the gospel truly helps improve our lives. I'm so grateful to be on my mission for moments like this, where I get to be a part of helping someone change their life for the better. What a blessing it is to have the fulness of the gospel restored on the earth today and also the priesthood authority that allows us to make covenants with our Heavenly Father to help us return to live with him again. I'm eternally grateful to my Heavenly Father for such wonderful blessings. I've been out on my mission for a little over 3 months! That's so crazy! Time is really flying by. I'm already 1/6 done with my mission. Say what?!?! Plus this is my last week of training! How crazy is that?! Transfers are next Tuesday so we will see what happens. Most likely I will be staying in Madison, IN and Sister Mendon will be leaving to a different area. So weird to think I'm going to be an actual missionary and not just a greenie. Well I still feel like a greenie sometimes haha but I'm so much better than I was when I began. I'm so grateful to serve here in the kentucky, Louisville Mission. Even though I'm still new, I can say that the mission does change lives. This is the time where I am God's investigator and I am learning so much. I'm so grateful I have this opportunity to deepen my own conversion. I love this gospel and I love sharing it. Gospel Love, Sister Harris 1) The gang! 2) The gang feat. Brother Kinman Hey y'all! It's been another great week in the Great Kentucky Louisville Mission! The work is progressing and people are coming to christ. We have the best investigators ever! They all have a sincere desire to follow christ and his teachings and are all making changes in their lives to do so. It's amazing seeing how the fulness of the gospel truly changes people's lives. Last week I had the opportunity to go to the Louiville, Kentucky temple. It was such a great experience. I am so grateful for temples and the peaceful feelings it brings. Some other cool things that happened last week was that I got to feed a cow! I was doing service at a members home and we got to take a break to feed their cows. It was so awesome. After doing service they took us out to eat and they gave me some frog legs to eat. Normally I would never even think to eat frog legs but I did and it actually was not bad haha! Now I can say I've eaten frog legs lol. I also had the opportunity to teach seminary last week. We taught about how the law of moses points to the coming of Jesus christ. At the end of the lesson we did yoginary (yoga + seminary). My dad sent me a lesson plan on how we could connect the seminary doctrinal mastery to yoga poses and it went really well! Last Friday we were served two dinners!! We had a lesson in Vevay (town next to madison) and we had a member come with us. She told us after the lesson that she hadn't eaten all day so we went to a restaurant so she could have dinner but then she bought us food as well. So we had dinner with her and then went straight to a dinner appointment at another members home. We thought we were going to explode we were so full. I guess it's not uncommon to have two dinners out here in the mission but I'm not sure how I feel about that haha. That's about it for this last week! Gospel love, Sister Harris 1) feeding cows!!! 2) frog legs 3) yoginary 4) companion pic :) Hey everyone!
So this email is going to be super short this week but, IT HAS BEEN SUCH A GREAT WEEK! We found 2 new investigators which is so great because we have been so busy with service, appointments, and meetings lately that it feels like we haven't had anytime to find so it is amazing when the lord blesses you with people to teach. Last week we did the have anyone set for a baptismal date but now we have 4 dates set for investigators and they are all progressing! We found one of our new investigators, Jesse, at another one of our investigators house. We felt prompted to stop by to quick and say hi and see how she was doing before we were heading to a meeting. Her friend Jesse came to the door and we quick gave him a card with our number on it and didn't really expect anything to come out of it. Two days later he called us and asked if we could have a lesson with him that day. We shared with him the restoration and he showed up at church the next day! We had another lesson with him about the gospel of Jesus christ and he understands everything and wants to be baptized! He told us that it was pretty crazy we found him. He said that the circumstances were so weird that it's crazy we caught him at that time and at that place. He said he was at rock bottom and then we showed up just at the moment he needed us. He described it as the gospel filling a hole he never knew he had. This was such a great experience to know that by following the spirit we were able to find one of God's children that has been prepared to receive the gosepl! Also what's really cool is that we had 8 investigators at church that Sunday! That's about all I have time to write about today but I love Y'all and have a great week! Gospel love, Sister Harris |
